National Cheeseburger Day Deals

This Saturday, September 18th, is National Cheeseburger Day.

Burger Fi is running a contest where you can win an A+ Meal for a year. The A+ Meal is a cheeseburger, fries and drink. The contest will run on social media and the winner announced on September 28th.

Friendly’s is offering a free medium sundae when you order a cheeseburger on September 18th. The offer is for Sweet Rewards members only.

McDonald’s will give you a cheeseburger for fifty cents if you use their app.

Wendy’s has a BOGO free cheeseburger offer all week – if you use their app.

We’ll update this as we get closer to THE day. Last year, Applebee’s, Burger King, Domino’s, Sonic, Steak n Shake and others joined in the fun.

Special Fall Food at IHOP

IHOP is preparing for Halloween with its new International Haunted House of Pancakes menu.

New is the Reese’s Pieces Pancakes, four fluffy buttermilk pancakes topped with Reese’s peanut butter sauce, chocolate sauce, Reese’s Pieces candy and  a whipped topping.

Perhaps a little more traditional is the Pumpkin Spice Pancakes. You get four pumpkin pancakes made with real pumpkin and seasonal spices, crowned with whipped topping.

The Caramel Apple à la Mode Pancake is a stack of buttermilk pancakes with apple cinnamon compote, a drizzle of caramel sauce & one scoop of vanilla ice cream. $1 from every sale of these goes to support local children’s charities.

Finally, the IHHOP is offering the Halloween themed Monster Mummy Burrito. It has scrambled eggs, hickory-smoked bacon, pork sausage, diced ham, shredded jack and cheddar cheeses, hash browns, avocado, Poblano queso and sour cream wrapped in a warm flour tortilla and finished with jalapeño eyes. It’s served with 2 buttermilk pancakes, hash browns, buttered toast, fruit or french fries.

Here’s where the local IHOPs are located. As of this morning, the IHOP web site says that these items are not available at the local IHOP – but I don’t believe that. Check with the individual restaurants.

Chili’s Review: Sometimes Everything Seems to Go Wrong

We don’t go to Chili’s every week but we do end up there several times a year. The item in CheapEatsMyrtleBeach about their 3 for $10 deal provided the motivation to return.

It was Saturday night around 8 and the wait time was half an hour. We signed in and waited for the call. It never came. We did eventually get seated and placed our order: two iced tea, chips and salsa, garden salad, and two of the Margarita Chicken.

Service was fast but the food was not hot. We started to eat anyway.

At a table to our left, a couple was having some sort of trouble. She had left the building but it seems the man had stayed behind. He couldn’t find something. He was talking to the waitresses and looking under the table but couldn’t find it. There was much talk.

The Margarita Chicken is three nice size pieces of grilled chicken breast tastefully arranged on a bed of black beans, Mexican rice, tortilla strips and pico. We’ll spare you a review of the meal because the whole situation that was unfolding around us would make a fair assessment impossible.

We were well into our meal when we noticed that the family behind us had walked out. After a while, a waitress came over. She stopped at a distance from the abandoned table and stared. Putting her hand to her mouth she said, “Oh, no!” Another minute passed. “Oh, no,” she said again. The table and floor was strewn with food, trash and . . . vomit. It looked like a dumpster explosion on a very hot summer day.

It seemed like everyone on staff wanted to see. Waitresses came and went like police at the scene of a crime.

Finally, a man with a mop arrived. When he saw us looking at the carnage, he asked snottily, “Are you looking for something?” We said no. It was definitely time to go.

But not so fast. As we prepared to leave, we glanced at the bill. We had been overcharged by $8.00. The overcharge was easily resolved and we paid but the constant chaos did ruin a nice night out.

A final note. Running a restaurant is clearly not an easy job. Many are understaffed and the employees overworked and underpaid. Things can and often do go wrong, sometimes awfully wrong. This was one of those times.

We could have forgiven just about all of that with one exception: the snotty guy with the mop. I know that it’s no fun to clean up a stranger’s vomit. It wasn’t the mop guys fault. But our time out was ruined, too. And the vomit wasn’t our fault either.

Let’s just leave it at that.

New Avocado Breakfast, Dinner at Bob Evans

When was the last time you had a really nice, sit-down breakfast? When was the last time you went to Bob Evans?

Sorry for so many questions. It’s just that Bob Evans has introduced a new Southwest Avocado Omelet.

It’s a fluffy, three-egg omelet that comes with Bob Evans sausage, fire-roasted corn & black beans and cheddar cheese. Then there’s a fresh avocado, diced tomatoes, green onions and homemade cilantro lime cream sauce topping. All this comes with hash browns or home fries and a choice of freshly baked bread. Doesn’t that sound nice?

By the way, Bob Evans has also introduced a new Southwest Avocado Chicken dinner. You get two chicken breasts topped with fresh avocado, diced tomatoes, crispy tortilla strips, fire-roasted corn and black beans and homemade cilantro lime cream sauce. It’s served with your choice of two Farmhouse Sides and freshly baked dinner rolls.

The breakfast is $10.29; the dinner $11.99.

There are two Bob Evans restaurants in Myrtle Beach: 3384 Waccamaw Boulevard and 175 Brookton Circle.
