Taco Bell Crazy Recycling Plan

It sounds like a messy and incredibly inefficient idea but Taco Bell wants customers to mail in their used hot sauce packets for recycling. Seriously. Maybe.

Here’s what they want you to do.

Sign up for an account with TerraCycle, a specialty recycling firm.

Collect empty sauce packets within a cardboard box or any other recyclable container you already have on hand.

Once your collection box is full, log into your TerraCycle account to download and print a free shipping label.

Ship your box via UPS.

TerraCycle has reportedly seen success with similar collection programs for coffee capsules, chewing gum and more.  The Recycle-Your-Hot-Sauce-Packet idea is part of Taco Bell’s commitment to make all consumer-facing packaging recyclable, compostable, or reusable by 2025.

New Del Taco Coming to Conway?

There’s a rumor going ‘round that there’s a Del Taco moving into the old Hardees on 544 by Coastal Carolina University.

CheapEatsMyrtleBeach has attempted to confirm the rumor with Del Taco and is awaiting a reply.

So far, there is only one Del Taco in South Carolina, on Harbison Boulevard in Columbia. But that’s a good sign. At least they’re already in the state.
Del Taco is famous for, not surprisingly, tacos but also has burritos and other food. What’s really noteworthy is their dollar value meal selection.

For example, you can get a Value Taco with seasoned beef, crisp shredded lettuce, freshly grated cheddar cheese in a crunchy corn shell or warm flour tortilla for a single dollar.

Here’s link to the entire value meal section. Is that impressive or what?

More information if and when it becomes available.

Veterans Cafe to Reopen and Needs Our Help

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – The owners of Veterans Café and Grille opened their business more than a decade ago as a way to help the veteran community. But now, they need our help.

The café had to shut their doors last year, but they are hoping to open back up within the next few weeks.

Once that happens, owners Lou and Rhonda Mascherino hope you will stop by for a bite to eat.

Veterans Cafe is located at 3544 Northgate Drive in Myrtle Beach. Phone: 843-232-8387.

The Feds Investigate McFlurry Machines

McDonald’s has had a problem with their McFlurry machines, well, forever.

The machines, which are used to make milkshakes, soft cones and McFlurrys, are frequently out of service. There’s even a web site, mcbroken.com, that tracks McFlurry machine outages across the United States. It’s no joking matter for customers or the chain, either. McFlurry sales account for some 60% of McDonald’s dessert sales in the U.S.

But take heart, McFlurry fans. The venerable Wall Street Journal reports that the Biden administration has heard the anguished cries of franchisees and customers alike and put the Federal Trade Commission on the case.

According to the Journal, “The FTC wants to know how McDonald’s reviews suppliers and equipment, including the ice cream machines, and how often restaurant owners are allowed to work on their own machines.”

There is no timeline regarding the investigation and some of the players involved say they were unaware that the FTC was even involved in the McFlurry situation. So for now, take comfort in the fact that the federal government is on the job and that milkshakes, soft cones and McFlurrys might soon be flowing freely at McDonald’s. Or not.

Cheerwine Festival canceled for 2nd straight year citing health concerns

SALISBURY, NC (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) – The popular annual Cheerwine Festival in Salisbury has been scrapped citing health concerns, organizers announced Monday

“We’ve been monitoring the situation closely, and have decided to cancel this year’s festival in order to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved in the event,” says W. Lane Bailey, Salisbury city manager. “This was not an easy decision, but following increased and overwhelming concerns, we feel this is the best way to proceed during our current situation.”

The event was set to be held on September 18. The next Cheerwine Festival is currently scheduled to take place in May of next year.
